Mali left some great impressions, even the places that were bound to be anti-climatic, like the mud town of Djenné. Some time ago a was trying out Google Skethup and made a 3d model of the mud house of Ton van der Lee. You can see it in Google Earth via the following link:

December 21st - Cpetown, South Africa
Done, over, no more, we have arrived! We have sent our final mailing and are looking forward with mixed feelings to coming home. The last pictures can now be seen where they always are. (see http://www.cyclingsouth.nl/images/photomatic/ Capetown, South Africa).

November 27th - Port Elisabeth, South Africa
We are finishing up! The flight back home has been booked, the last stamps have been put in our passports; we are travelling through luxury South Africa. July 29th - Moshi, Tanzania
From Masaka we have biked towards Arusha, including some great days through Masaai country, to meet up with Koen and Rafaella. With them we did a fantastic Safari. They also brought all your mail, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

April 20th - Kano, Nigeria
We have sent a thriller about Anansie and the nigerian border crossing (see sent mailings). Also some new photos have been made available (see http://www.cyclingsouth.nl/images/photomatic/ Kano, Nigeria).
We have finished the last arduous stretch of Sahel, and are cycling south again through Nigeria in the direction of Cameroon.

March 23rd- Cotonou, Benin

We have got our visa for Niger and for a little while, about 10 days, we are cycling north!

Februari 20th- Kumasi, Ghana
Ehm, not, our apologies. After the theft in Bamako (see Sent mailings) and more dust, we biked throught Burkina Faso to end up in tropical Kumasi, Ghana.From Ouagadougou we already uploaded some images, here are some more:

Burkina Faso and Ghana are relaxed, it becomes less dusty and the food is more diverse! Fresh pineapple, mango and cocnut, and in the evening we have a choice! Oh yeah we also passed the 10.000 km barrier (actually, we are almost at 11.000)!

January 5th- Bamako, Mali
After een arduous journey, where we just missed the Paris-Dakar rally, we arrived in Bamako. Some photos:

November 23rd - Nouadibhou, Mauritania
After a long tiresome but great drive through the first etappe of the Sahara, we havereached Nouadibhou. Though internet conditions are rough, still some new pictures. November 12th- Laayoune, Morocco

October 31st- Taroudannt, Morocco
We have crossed the Atlas! The wind proved to be more difficult though. Unfortunately no pictures of annoying kids, but a few of the mountains. Ins Allah next time a small series of movieclips. October 14th - Fès, Morocco
We have cycled a nice trip, via Chefchouen and the Rif mountains to Fès, where we try al the local dishes and have our 4 day vacation. Before we departed we have collected the poste restante, thanks for sending!

Mozambique: straatrecept komt zodra we er iets leuks tegenkomen.

Mozambique : restaurantrecept

Voor eetavontururiers, als middagsnack op een warme dag, voorafje bij spannend diner? (v) Bananensoep!

4 geschilde bananen

700 ml melk (houd 2 eetlepels achter)

geraspte schil en sap van sinaasappel

theelepel kaneel

theelepel suiker

eetlepel maizena
zout

U krijgt het beste resultaat door de geschilde bananen en de melk in een staafmixer te pureren. Anders prakt u de bananen fijn en voegt u geleidelijk de melk toe. Klop alles op tot een gladde massa. Doe het mengsel over in een pan en voeg suiker en zout toe, en vervolgens sinaasappelraspsel en -sap. Dek de pan af en breng de soep aan de kook; laat hem op een lage warmtebron nog 5 minuten zachtjes koken. Roer de mazena met de achtergehouden melk tot een papje en voeg dit al roerend toe aan de soep. Laat de soep 2 minuten doorkoken tot hij licht gebonden is en dien hem warm of koud op met als garnering wat kaneelpoeder.

14 Juni - Eldoret, Kenia

4 Juni - Nairobi, Kenia
Met op het randje van overgewicht (gezamenlijk 100 kg bagage) zijn we in Nairobi aangekomen. Raar om ineens zo'n sprong te maken.

20 April - Kano, Nigeria
We hebben een mail verzonden over Anansie en de spannend Nigeriaanse grensovergang (zie verzonden mailings). Ook staan er nieuwe fotos online gezet (zie http://www.cyclingsouth.nl/images/photomatic/ Kano, Nigeria).
Na een laatste, hete etappe door de Sahel in Niger, rijden we nu weer zuidwaarts richting Kameroen.

23 Maart - Cotonou, Benin
Een nieuwe mailing is verzonden (zie verzonden mailings) en we hebben nieuwe fotos online gezet (zie http://www.cyclingsouth.nl/images/photomatic/ Cotonou, Benin).
We hebben de visa voor Niger in onze zak en zijn voor even, 10 dagen ongeveer, op weg naar het noorden!

20 Februari - Kumasi, Ghana
Ehm, niet dus, onze excuses. Na de diefstal in Bamako (zie Verzonden mailings) en nog meer stof zijn we via Burkina Faso in het tropische gedeelte van Ghana aangekomen. Vanuit Ouagadougou hebben we al wat fotos geupload, en nu volgen er meer.

Burkina Faso en Ghana zijn ontspannen, het wordt langzaam minder stoffig en het eten wordt diverser! Verse ananas, mango en kokosnoot, en in de avond hebben we keus! Oh ja, we zijn ook de 10.000 km grens gepasseerd (we zijn al bijna op 11.000).

5 Januari - Bamako, Mali
Na een lange stoffige reis zijn we in Bamako aangekomen. Wat fotos:

Omdat we hier nog wat dagen langer blijven om visa te regelen, Mali's prachtige hoofdstad te bekijken en uit te rusten, kun je binnenkort meer nieuws verwachten.

9 December - Saint Louis, Senegal

23 November - Nouadibhou, Mauritanië
We hebben etappe 1 van de Sahara-oversteek erop zitten, die redelijk zwaar, maar erg mooi was. We bereiden ons voor op etappe 2, naar Noukchott. Internet is even slecht hier, maar toch een paar nieuwe fotos kun je weer vinden op: http://www.cyclingsouth.nl/images/photomatic/ (zie Nouadibhou)

1 November - Tiznit, Marokko
We houden vanwege stakende darmwegen een extra rustdag in Tiznit, voordat we kilometers gaan maken richting Layoune en Dakla. Hier is een internetcafe waar ik wel kan zien wat voor filpjes ik heb geschoten:

31 Oktober - Taroudannt, Marokko
We zijn de Atlas over! Zwaarder was echter de wind tegen. Helaas geen fotos van vervelende kindjes, wel van de bergen. Ins Allah volgt een volgende keer een serietje filmpjes. 14 Oktober - Fès, Marokko
We hebben een fijn endje gefietst, via Chefchouen en het Rif gebergte naar Fès, waar we alweer alle lekkenijen uitproberen, en vakantie vieren. Voor we vertrokken hebben we nog poste restante opgehaald in Tanger, bedankt!

Na onze vakantie, over twee dagen vertrekken we naar het eerste echte uitdagende stuk, via het Atlas gebergte richting het zuiden. de lijntjes op de kaart zijn gestippeld....

7 oktober - Tanger, Marokko

25 aug 2004 - Toledo, Spanje
We hebben weer een twee halve rustdagen. Gisteren lekker alles gewassen, envandaag een beetje shrijven, de site bijwerken en misschien zelfs ijs eten. We hebben een klein feestje te vieren: de eerst 2000 km zitten erop! Nieuwe fotos staan weer hier: http://www.cyclingsouth.nl/images/photomatic/

On the edge of being overweight (together we had 100 kg of luggage) we arrived in Nairobi. Strange to make a jump like this.
